Expectations of MITs I Expectations of Members
To have contact with musicians all over the United States
To make friendships with many Sigma Alpha Iotas who share the same ideals
To be recognized and esteemed by members of all other national fraternities as a "fellow Greek"
To be encouraged to seek the highest goals in personal development and professional stature
To wear the badge as an introduction to Sigma Alpha Iota college and alumnae chapters and members everywhere
To have opportunity at Province Days and National Conventions to broaden friendships to include members from other chapters
To belong to a closely-knit organization whose province and national officers visit chapters to bring assistance and stimulate maintenance of the fraternity's high standards of musicianship and scholarship and acquaintance with the broad scope of the fraternity
To find opportunities for leadership training in the chapter guided by national policies and instructional materials
To meet and know the nationally recognized musicians and supporters of music who are Distinguished members
To participate in fraternity projects - scholarships, promotion of American music through the Inter-American Music Awards program, assistance in rehabilitation through music both in this country and in foreign countries, and other nationally organized and recognized endeavors of SAI

1. Must be currently enrolled in or have completed at least one music credit (ensembles count)
2. Must have completed at least one semester at a collegiate institution
3. Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
4. Cannot be a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Delta Omicron, or Phi Beta
5. Must secure a faculty recommendation (form will be provided)

Becoming a Member-in-Training (MIT)
1. Attend at least one rush event or meet with the Vice President of Membership for further information
2. Receive and accept an Invitation to Membership from the chapter
3. Attend the Pledge Ceremony and pay the $55 pledging fee at that time

1. Attend six weeks of class (once per week)
2. Participate in one philanthropic project
3. Perform a musical selection (solo or ensemble) for the chapter
4. Pass the membership examination
5. Pay the $200 initiation fee (due at the time of the membership exam)
6. Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
7. OPTIONAL: A fundraiser may be organized by the MITs to help defray the costs of initiation
Note: MITs are encouraged to help with and/or participate in chapter activities but are not be required to fundraise for the chapter until after initiation

1. Attend all meetings, both formal and informal
2. Attend exec board meetings if you hold an office
3. Attend all ritual ceremonies
4. Attend all active members' recitals and at least two SAI faculty member recitals per semester
5. Participate in at least one fundraiser per semester
6. Participate in at least one philanthropic project per semester
7. Serve on at least one committee
8. Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
