Planetarium hosts professional conference

Mueller Planetarium is hosting the Western Alliance Conference of Planetariums through Sept. 16.
The conference is the annual meeting of four planetarium professional organizations - the Southwestern Association of Planetarium, the Great Plains Planetarium Association, the Rocky Mountain Planetarium Association and the Pacific Planetarium Association.
During the four-day session (which opened Sept. 13), conference attendees will see demonstrations of new technologies, hear presentations devoted to astronomy education and developments in the field, and engage in an exchange of ideas and techniques.
Jack Dunn, coordinator of Mueller Planetarium and president of the Great Plains Planetarium Association, will showcase four different versions of full-dome video technology on the Mueller dome. Conference attendees will also attend a live performance by 'AstroJazz,' a quartet of musicians from Boulder, Colo., led by Cherilynn Morrow of the Space Science Institute (www.astrojazz.org).
The conference culminates in a banquet address by James Rice Jr., a professor at Arizona State University and member of the Mars Exploration Rover Science Team.
Other events include a visit to the King Science and Technology Magnet Center School planetarium in Omaha.
