CA service awards program Nov. 8

NU President Dennis Smith will host Central Administration's annual Service Award program at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 in the Varner Hall Board Room. These individuals will be honored for their years of service with the university (Name, years of service, department):

Eunice Pyle, 30, Computing Services; Royce E. Ballinger 25, Executive Vice President & Provost; John Young, 25, Computing Services; Kristy Hattan, 20, Computing Services; John Wiltse, 20, Vice President & General Counsel; Gayle Hanshaw, 15, Computing Services; Jayne Sutton, 15, Office of the President; Susan Church, 10, Computing Services; Sheryl Gartner, 10, Vice President for Business & Finance; Carmen Maurer, 10, Vice President & General Counsel; Ruth Polacek, 10, Computing Services; Martin McHenry, 5, Computing Services; James Richter, 5, Computing Services.


Lied announces Dream Project winners

Ten teachers have won 2001 Dream Project grants from the Lied Center and Friends of Lied.

The groups collaborate to provide grants for selected Nebraska classroom teachers to support an arts-based "dream" project. The winners are listed by school, project title, teacher and grade:

  • Northern Hills Elementary, Norfolk, (Talk Does Not Cook Rice - An Asian American Project) Marlene Blakeman (K-7);
  • O'Neill Elementary School, O'Neill, (History Comes Alive with Music) - Molly Jennings (K-6);
  • East Elementary School, Minden, (Strike Up the Band) - Jan Palmer (Grade 3);
  • Diller-Odell Elementary School, Diller, (Train, Talk and Travel) - Jan Liscom (4-6);
  • Broken Bow Public School, Broken Bow, (A Look Behind the Scenes: Awareness of Career Opportunities in the Performing Arts) - Lance Bristol (9-12);
  • Hyannis Elementary School, Hyannis, (Dancing in the Hills) - Sheryl Ferguson (K-6);
  • Elliot Elementary School, Lincoln, (Literature to Live Through the Arts) - Rhonda Mueller (Grade 2);
  • Lyons-Decatur Northeast School, Decatur, (Creative Workshop) - Steven Hosch (5-6);
  • Sandoz Elementary, Lexington, (Original Opera) - Jean McGee (Grade 5);
  • Southern Valley Jr.-Sr. High School, Oxford, (Theater 21 - A Dream Project for the 21st Century) - Bonnie G. Simpson (7-12).
