Jazz in June concerts, market scheduledThe annual Jazz in June concert series will be offered every Tuesday in June on the UNL campus at 12th and R streets. The free jazz concerts are from 7-9 p.m. in the Sheldon Sculpture Garden. The Jazz in June Market, which runs from 5-9 p.m. each Tuesday during the series, is open for dinner or midweek shopping. Dinner items, fresh produce, baked goods, ice cream from the UNL Dairy Store and many more items are available for purchase. The UNL Botanical Garden and Arboretum will offer free tours of the gardens on city campus. Tours start at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in June on the east side of the Sheldon Gallery. Each tour will last about 30 minutes. Inside the Sheldon, visitors can enjoy a scavenger hunt and visit the Sheldon's exhibition. Docents will be available inside the galleries for tours from 5 to 7 p.m. This year's Jazz in June performers are: June 3, Norman Hedman & Tropique; June 10, Greg Abate Quartet; June 17, Darryl White Sextet; June 24, Don Stiernberg. Nebraska Repertory Theatre season begins July 1The Nebraska Repertory Theatre will perform two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays and a classic family theater production in its 36th season. The productions are in rotating repertory on Howell and Studio theatre stages from July 1 to Aug. 2. Opening July 1 is The Little Prince by Rick Cummins and John Scoullar from the book by Antoine de Saint Exupery. The production will be staged in the Studio Theatre, on the third floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R St. Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley opens July 10, and Proof by David Auburn opens July 16, both on Howell Theatre stage, first floor of the Temple Building. Exhibition displays new, historic garments"Bias Cut and Beyond: A Collaborative Exhibition of Historic Garments and Student Designs" is the Option II Project of Carla Coorts completed under the supervision of Barbara Trout. The exhibition, from May 6-22 at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, showcases historic garments from the UNL Historic Costume Collection with the student designs they helped inspire. Eleven 20th century women's dresses were selected for exhibition based on their use of the bias cut, shirring and/or the godet. Coorts and Trout presented design students with the historic garments and asked them to render modern interpretations. Coorts prepared the garments for exhibition. The gallery is on the second floor of the Home Economics Building.
It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. |
