Convenience, efficiency, and an overall reduction of paperwork are some of the features and benefits expressed by several card holders who are participating members of the University of Nebraska Procurement Card pilot program.
During the period from October 17, 1995 through November 24, 1995, card holders initiated 141 transactions with 83 different vendors/suppliers. The average dollar expenditure of these small-dollar transactions was $77.29. Card holders report very few problems when using the Purchasing Card.
UNL Purchasing will be soliciting feedback from all card holders
during the week of December 4th through December 8th to determine
customer service levels when utilizing the Purchasing Card. Other
questions, or comments regarding the Purchasing Card program should be
directed via e-mail to: wbode@unlas400.unl.edu.
The Radiation Safety Office will present a laser safety orientation in
December. Please contact the Radiation Safety Office at 2-2155, to get
dates, times, and location information. All laser users (except Class I
users) should attend the orientation.
The trend of ever-increasing paper price increases is beginning to slow. While prices are anticipated to continue to increase, experts in the industry forecast smaller, less frequent upward adjustments. Current pricing on the two most popular 81/2" x 11" copy paper items now stand as follows:
$3.63/rm for Boise paper, 8 "x11", Item #2226
$4.04/rm for Xerox paper, 8 "x11", Item #2224
Both copy papers are now produced according to the same manufacturers'
specifications.
The 1996 UNL EZ Order and 1996 Boise Cascade Catalogs have been
combined and are now available for distribution. The 1996 catalogs are
complete replacements of your existing copies and contain many new
products and revisions Š if you have not received a new 1996 combined
catalog, they are only available through the UNL Purchasing Department at
472-2126.
UNL Purchasing has recently opened a homepage on the World Wide Web for your reference and convenience. The Purchasing Home Page can be accessed through the UNL Frontier listing of Campus Information under Departments, or you can go directly to the site by simply entering the location address (URL) of: http:// www.unl.edu/purchase.
To facilitate customer service, Purchasing's Home Page provides access
to information such as Current Announcements, Procurement Policies and
Procedures, Travel Information, Who's Who in the Purchasing Department
(with direct e-mail access to all buyers), along with many other topics
that may prove beneficial and helpful.

Give yourself a gift this holiday season, by taking care of yourself. The holidays can be wonderful, joyful and eventful. They can also be stressful. Take steps to reduce stress for yourself and your family this season. The EAP offers a few gifts you can give yourself. The gift of time. Take time to do some of the things you enjoy: relax, read a book, take a walk, see a movie, enjoy some music.
The gift of health. Exercise can help reduce stress and can raise your energy level. Eat healthy, and avoid overindulging in alcohol or caffeine.
The gift of peace. When life gets too hectic, make time to relax. Find a quiet place where you can spend some time refocusing and thinking about what is important to you.
The gift of love. Surround yourself with people you care about. Reach out to others with a phone call, card or visit.
The gift of acceptance. Set realistic expectations for yourself and
stick to them. Don't expect the holiday spirit to make up for accumulated
problems with family or friends. Expect that the holidays may not be
perfect. Spend only what is realistic for your budget. Be creative.

Question: I work twenty hours a week, with all my hours scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. How will I be paid for the upcoming holidays?
Answer: Regular, part-time employees receive holiday pay at their normal rate of pay proportionate to the full-time equivalency of their appointment.
Only regular employees receive holiday pay; temporary employees are not eligible. It is important to know also that you will receive holiday pay only if you are in pay status for your entire scheduled workday immediately before the holiday and immediately after.
Being in pay status means that you are working OR that you are on approved paid leave (for example, sick or vacation leave). As a part-time employee this means that you must be in pay status during all hours of your regularly-scheduled shift on the day before and on the day after the holiday.
The first scheduled holiday is Friday, December 22, 1995, and the first day back at work is Tuesday, January 2, 1995. Therefore, based on your work schedule, in order to receive holiday pay you must be in pay status for all of your scheduled hours on Wednesday, December 20 and on Wednesday, January 3. Regular, full-time employees must be in pay status for the entire scheduled workday on December 1 and January 2.
The nature of the work at UNL dictates that some employees must work
on holidays. Questions about how employees are paid for working holidays
should be directed to Human Resources (472-3101). Human Resources can
also assist some departments and employees in clarifying other issues
about holiday pay.
