UNL's director of research compliance services recently was presented a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. R. Gene White, DVM, was one of two Oklahoma State alumni to be honored for outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession.
White, a West Virginia native, received his bachelor's degree in 1958 and doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1960 from Oklahoma State, where he was chosen the veterinary college's outstanding senior. After graduating, White entered private veterinary practice and later worked in the pharmaceutical industry.
In 1969, he joined the UNL West Central Research and Extension Center at North Platte. He earned his master's degree from UNL in 1971.
While at the North Platte center, White developed the veterinary
diagnostic laboratory and field research program for the west-central
Nebraska area. He later served as director of the center. In 1985, White
was named director of the institutional animal care program, a position
that in 1993 was renamed director of research compliance services and
expanded to include federal compliance in both animal and human research.
Harold Stevens, Dawson County Extension Agent, emeritus, was honored
at the 1995 Centennial Jubilee Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock show. Stevens was
presented the Ak-Sar-Ben Centennial Jubilee Award for his half century of
service to Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H.
