State of the University Address Aug. 22

Chancellor Moeser's State of the University Address and All-University Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Lied Center. A picnic lunch will be served outdoors immediately following the speech in the bricked plaza area north of the Lied Center.

Hear details of the Chancellor's goals for the coming year as well as the campus re-allocation and program enhancement plan. This information will affect all faculty and staff, so supervisors are encouraged to arrange time for all employees to attend. Thanks for avoiding scheduling meetings that conflict with this time.


Streckfuss Garden Dedication July 19

A brief public ceremony will be at 6 p.m. July 19 to dedicate a garden in memory of Richard Streckfuss, who was a faculty member in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications from 1980 until his death on Oct. 31, 1996. The garden was built with memorial contributions from friends, family, colleagues and students. The garden is within the Cather gardens, along the path connecting Love Library and Avery Hall. Work is still in progress. When finished it will contain redbuds and a selection of native perennials.


Oak Tree to Honor Dasenbrock

A ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. July 21 west of Hamilton Hall to dedicate a bur oak tree in honor of Wilbur "Bud" Dasenbrock. Refreshments will be served following a brief ceremony.


Bundy Retirement Reception July 31

A retirement reception for Glendora Bundy will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. July 31 in the East Union. Bundy has been with the university for 14 years as a clerk in the distribution section of Communications and Information Technology.


Minority Business Directory

As part of the UNL Purchasing Department's continuing effort to encourage and attract women and minority vendors as potential suppliers, they now have extra copies of the Minority Business Directory available. This comprehensive listing printed exclusively for the promotion of ethnic minority firms in the Greater Omaha and Lincoln metropolitan areas is published by the Omaha Regional Minority Purchasing Council.

Purchasing Card Program Training

Orientation/training sessions for the University of Nebraska Purchasing Card Program will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. July 17, Aug. 7 and Aug. 28 at the Business Services Complex, 1700 Y St.

4-H, FFA Golf Benefit Nets $50,000

The third annual 4-H and FFA golf benefit held at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Lincoln attracted 91 participants and netted $50,000.

The June 9 event was sponsored by the foundations for both organizations.

The event netted $10,000 more than the previous year, said Sue Friesen, 4-H Foundation manager based at UNL. Nebraska 4-H and FFA will divide the proceeds evenly to be used for scholarships, awards, leadership programs and innovative program grants.


Chancellor's Commision Seeking Award Nominations

The Chancellor's Commission on the Status of People of Color is seeking nominations for the Annual Outstanding Contribution to the Status of People of Color Award.

Nominations should be submitted by Aug. 15. The Recognition Reception will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Wick Center.

Nebraska EPSCoR maintains a home page at http://www.unl.edu/nepscor/index.html that describes their program, including current program announcements. They post requests for proposals (RFPs) for new grant opportunities available from federal agency EPSCoR programs as they occur. A new RFP for "NSF EPSCoR Grants" has been posted on the web site.
