Two streets running through the UNL campus became one-way streets the first week of August.
Avery Avenue became a one-way eastbound from Stadium Drive to North 14th Street and 15th Street became one-way northbound from S to U streets just west of the Selleck Quadrangle. Both streets are owned and maintained by the university but are open for public use.
The changes are an attempt to smooth traffic flow and ease congestion, said Tad McDowell, UNL parking and transit manager.
McDowell said that the Stadium Drive Parking Garage is expected to open for business for football boosters on Aug. 30. It is scheduled to open to the general public on Sept. 2.
The Office of Parking and Transit Services will be moving into the garage on Sept. 26 and will be open for business on Sept. 29. Office hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cashiered parking in the structure will initially be available from 6 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Parking rates for the structure will be $.35 per half-hour for the first hour and $.50 per hour thereafter. The maximum daily rate will be $3.75. Two types of reserved parking will be available; fifty reserved stalls located inside the structure at $50 per month and reserved parking available in the surface lot west of the structure at $30 per month. These new reserved areas will be available this Fall when the garage opens. Faculty and staff who are interested in reserved parking in the new structure should contact Parking and Transit Services, 472-1800 by Aug. 20.
A UNL continuing education program for seniors will hold an open house to kick off its new season from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Clifford Hardin Nebraska Center, 33rd and Holdrege streets.
Now in its sixth year, the Sharing Across Generations for Enrichment program offers educational series aimed at people over 50, but people of all ages are welcome. This year's main series will focus on the pivotal leaders of World War II from a first-hand perspective. The SAGE open house will set the mood for this series by featuring 1940s music performed by "Scad" Voss in the Nebraska Center's Omaha Room.
"Leaders in Times of Crisis" will explore the traits and challenges of those who shaped the Eisenhower Generation. The series is open to the public and will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 1 in the Gateway Mall Auditorium.
For more information on SAGE activities, call 472-6265.
A reception and lunch are being offered by the new School of Natural Resource Sciences as a "get acquainted" opportunity.
The reception is 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Nebraska East Union. This will be an opportunity for all faculty, staff and graduate students in and affiliated with the new school to get acquainted. There will be refreshments and door prizes. RSVP to the Water Center/Environmental Programs at 472-3305 by Aug. 18.
A luncheon is also scheduled on Sept. 16, 1997 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the Nebraska East Union. James Moeser, chancellor; Irv Omtvedt, vice chancellor for IANR; and Blaine Blad, school director, will speak at the luncheon. Recent changes to the electronic direct deposit operating rules allow employers the option of prenotification (verification of account number, routing number, checking/savings). Prenotification was mandatory prior to this change. Payroll direct deposit information will no longer go through the prenotification process beginning with the Aug. 28 biweekly and Aug. 29 monthly paydays. This change will give the employee better service by not requiring a delay of one payday in their payroll going directly to their bank(s). Contact the Payroll Office at 472-2010 or IANR Finance and Personnel at 472-1421 with questions.
