

A governor, the father of Arbor Day, two publishers, a Disney producer, an advertising agency founder and one of the first U.S. reporters to cover prisons in-depth will be honored at the 1998 Journalism Awards Luncheon April 3.
The College of Journalism and Mass Communications Alumni Association will present its 1998 Awards of Excellence to four alumni at the seventh annual event, which will be in Morrill Hall. The luncheon also will feature Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame inductions by the Nebraska Press Association and the college and the presentation of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association's Presidential Award.

The University of Nebraska College of Human Resources and Family Sciences Alumni Association will recognize a New Achiever Award winner, alumni of eight honor classes ranging from 1928 to 1988 and alumni of Loomis Hall during its annual awards luncheon and spring reunion April 4 in Lincoln.
Jane Wilkens, advertising and public relations coordinator for Golden Harvest Seeds in Waterloo, is the recipient of the New Achiever Award, given to a recent graduate who has shown early accomplishment and promise for future contributions.
Wilkens, a 1984 graduate of the college, has worked in a variety of positions in Illinois, Oregon and Nebraska. She received a New Achievers Award from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences last year and has been active in a variety of leadership roles for the Oregon and Nebraska Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences, the American Society for Training and Development, Kappa Omicron Nu and the Alice A. Ross Leadership Academy at Oregon State University.
College reunion activities begin at 9:30 a.m. in the East Union. Morning events include a silent auction with proceeds going toward a permanent display of college history in the Home Economics Building, the awards luncheon and a multimedia presentation on the James Quilt Collection. Afternoon activities include tours of the International Quilt Study Center, the Textiles, Clothing and Design Gallery, the Nutrition Research Lab and the Marriage/Family Resource Center.
There will also be a gathering of alumni who lived in Loomis Hall while students at the university. Loomis Hall was a residence hall for women attending the College of Home Economics, the predecessor of the College of Human Resources and Family Sciences.
