These services are very cost-effective and reasonably priced. SRL, as part of its educational mission, involves students (including post-doctoral, law, and graduate students) in its research teams whenever possible and appropriate. At the same time, all services involving students are designed and supervised either by faculty members or SRL professional staff, ensuring the quality of the work provided.
Although its relationship with UNL provides SRL with access to the full range of expertise and specialized knowledge typically associated with a highly-respected university, SRL possesses a special feature that further enhances its usefulness. Namely, it is an outgrowth of the nationally renowned and preeminent UNL Law Psychology Program. This program, which has been in existence for over 20 years (the first of its kind and the largest), is specifically designed to facilitate the ability of legal practitioners to access information and assistance from other disciplines. It uniquely provides a core of 25 J.D./Ph.D. students and faculty that is available to work on these projects. While SRL's services are not limited to psychological expertise, this perspective promotes its ability to discover ways in which to bring the diverse resources of UNL to bear on law-related issues.
The services SRL provides tend to be case specific, varying with the legal problem or case involved. Just as virtually almost any subject can be the focus of a legal dispute, the range of assistance that SRL can provide is similarly broad. Attorneys are invited to contact the Director of SRL for a free consultation to discuss issues on which they are providing counsel to explore how SRL might help them. The extensive resources at UNL can then be searched to ascertain possible sources of assistance. A consultant or expert who is currently working with an attorney is similarly invited to contact SRL, also at no initial charge, to ascertain whether there is any research or information that SRL can provide to better prepare this consultant or expert to fulfill his or her role. All such discussions are kept confidential.
