Case Strategies

Assessment, evaluation and management of trial risks can be a time-consuming and confusing process. By drawing on the research capabilities and faculty and student resources available at the University of Nebraskaâs highly-regarded Law/Psychology program, SRL can uncover, analyze and clarify important aspects and issues of your case that can lead to or enhance a winning approach. Some of the techniques we use to assist you include:

Focus Groups and Jury Simulations

By confidentially trying your case to a jury that represents a jury in your venue, you can better understand the witnesses and evidence jurors find critical and test and develop persuasive trial themes. Mock jurors, representative of community demographics, are screened and recruited. You and your associates then present both sides of the case in a full or abbreviated format. Instruction similar to those the judge might give are then read to the jury and a verdict form provided. Via closed-circuit television or two-way mirrors, you and your client watch as the mock jurors deliberate. After a verdict is reached, SRL moderators will conduct a question and answer session to provide further insights into juror thought processes and opinions, as well as evaluation of attorneys, arguments and demonstrative evidence.

Juror Profiling

How well do you know your potential jurors? Even if you are located in the community where the case is pending, you may not know what potential jurors think about you and your client. SRL will identify your best jurors and find out exactly what they like and what they donât. Using solid research methodologies, weâll help you understand the jurors that you will see at trial.

Change of Venue Studies

When venue is an issue, sound research, rigorous methodology and expert testimony to support it are vital, both at the trial and appellate level. SRL has the ability to provide you and your client with a team of experienced experts that are ready to create, design, implement, analyze and report a venue study that can successfully withstand intense scrutiny. Moreover, by using the resources and experience at the University of Nebraska, SRL can expediently collect in-person interviews in any venue in the nation!
