About Program

The program consists of 5 1-hour sessions.

You need to try to make all 5 sessions. If you can't, you can make up missed sessions at a later date.

This program consists of Dave Ramsey videos and small group discussion. The topics discussed include:

  • Savings: Save for emergencies, large purchases and wealth building
  • Budgets: Create and live on a zero-based budget
  • Debt: Avoid the trap of borrowing money
  • College Student Essentials: Learn what every college student needs to know about money
  • Family, Friends and Philanthropy: Assess the impact of money on relationships

  • This program is free for UNL students. Workbook is provided.
  • Registration is required.
  • Sessions are held in the Student Money Management Center, room 237 in the Nebraska Union on City Campus.
  • Sessions are kept small - around 10 people - so that participants feel comfortable and can ask questions.
  • You can bring your own food & drink.

During Mini Financial Boot Camp, a SMMC representative leads you through the "Healthy, Wealthy, & Wise" program created by the Mississippi State University Extension Service. The topics discussed include:

  • Health & Wealth
  • Budgeting
  • Saving
  • Financial Goals
  • Establishing Credit
  • Using Credit Wisely
  • Debt
  • Insurance
  • Investing
  • Consumer Skills
Details
  • During Mini Financial Boot Camp days, you are welcome to come any time between the stated event hours.
  • Sessions last about 20 minutes, depending on how many questions you have.
  • This program is free for UNL students. Workbook is provided.
  • Registration is not required.
  • Sessions are held in the Student Money Management Center, room 237 in the Nebraska Union on City Campus.

Financial Health Check-Up Schedule

Every Monday 11am to 1pm UNL City Union - On Plaza or Booth by Food Court
If we are not there, come to room 237 in the City Union.

Details
  • SMMC representatives offer UNL students the opportunity to gauge how healthy their financial life is by completing a brief Financial Health checklist.
  • Through completing the checklist, students can learn how they can change their financial behaviors in order to be more financially successful.
  • Financial Health Check-Ups last from 10-15 minutes. Students are assisted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
