Any UNL student is encouraged to volunteer at the UNL Student Money Management Center. Our volunteers are members of our Student Advisory Board and have the opportunity to complete financial education projects. More information is below.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with a variety of volunteer projects, which are listed below.
Advise SMMC Representatives
Volunteers have the opportunity to make suggestions for program improvements, make suggestions for new program activities, assist in building awareness of the program, and create opportunities for campus collaborations & partnerships.
What are the requirements to become a volunteer?
There are no set requirements for volunteers. You do not need to be a financial guru, but some financial knowledge is helpful. You do need to have a passion for financial literacy.
What is the time commitment?
Our volunteers must:
- Attend at least 1 Student Advisory board meeting each semester
- Complete any other activities that interest them & work with their schedule

If You Like to Meet People: Money Smart Street Team
If you're outgoing & fun, you would love representing the UNL SMMC at our information booths at a variety of UNL and community events. At these booths, we distribute money management resources, have participants complete educational activities, and answer questions about the UNL Student Money Management Center.
Details:
- Most events last about 2 hours.
- We would ask you ahead of time if you are available on the requested date and time.
- There are usually at least 2 people at information booths at a time.
- We typically do at least 1 information booth event per week.

If You Like to Write: Money Smart Articles
We are always looking for articles about money management topics - written by students, for students. We publish these articles in a variety of publications, including:
- SMMC MoneyZine magazine
- SMMC Money Smart blog
- SMMC Money Checklist eNewsletters
Money Smart Articles Details:
- Need to be 500 words or less.
- Need to focus on helping other students learn money management skills.
- Must be entertaining and enjoyable to read.
- Needed throughout the year, so articles can be submitted throughout the semester.
- Many students enjoy writing about their own personal financial success stories.

If You Like Graphic Design: Bulletin Board Kits
If you are creative and love graphic design, we are always in need of students to design bulletin board kits for residence halls and Greek houses.
Bulletin Board Kit Details:
- Must focus on helping other students learn money management skills.
- Must be entertaining and enjoyable to read.
- Needed throughout the year, so can be submitted throughout the semester.
- Can be created in any program (InDesign, Publisher, etc.) and turned into a PDF.
- Completed kits are posted on the UNL Student Money Management Center website and are available for student leaders to download and print.

If You Would Like to Promote Good Savings Habits: UNL SAVES Ambassadors
UNL SAVES is a campus-wide effort to empower UNL students to help other students increase their savings and their financial literacy.
Details:
- UNL SAVES ambassadors present a 10-minute Powerpoint presentation at their student organization meeting, residence hall meeting, or Greek house.
- The presentation outlines the importance of saving, saving strategies, and savings tools.
- UNL SAVES provides an easy-to-understand 10-minute presentation ambassadors use to motivate their peers to think about their savings habits.
- Ambassadors schedule a time with their organization to present.
