Question 8: Backing is most effective when it is:
Answer Choices:
(a) based upon abstract, universal laws. Sorry. Some audiences may talk in abstract univeral laws, but most don't. Backing is most effective when it is familiar to the audience.
(b) based on substantial, tangible information. Correct! This is the best answer because backing works best when it fits the "real world" perceptions of the audience. For example, suppose you used a vision from your 1-800 psychic to support your warrant. Would most audiences like that backing? Not likley. Backing should be tangible and real to be persuasive.
(c) hypothetical and ficticious. Sorry. Fake backing does little to support an argument and is also unethical.
(d) all of the above. Sorry. See the above explanations.
