A Description of Toulmin's Layout of Argumentation

Toulmin's theory of argument is based on his model, or layout, of argument. This model identifies six aspects of argument that are common in any field. Remember that the substance of the argument may change from one field to another (i.e., political speeches and law), however, the parts will remain the same. Those "parts" of argument may be explored by clicking on the following diagram.
