Alfred Beckman Middle School is a part of the Gary Community School Corporation, located in Gary, Indiana. Gary, Indiana, known as the Steel City, is a mid-sized city of 125,000 located in the northwest corner of the state near Lake Michigan, 30 miles from Chicago, Illinois. The Gary Community School Corporation’s vision is to create a school/community environment conductive and supportive of teaching and learning. They seek to be sure that students gain knowledge and work skills critical to their academic success, career plans, and participation in the global society.

Six middle schools composed of Grades 6, 7, and 8 with a total of approximately 5,000 students make up the Gary Community School Corporation’s middle school population. The Alfred Beckman Middle School serves 630 students with 40 teachers, making the student/teacher ratio 15.6. Seventy percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
