Lew Wallace High School

Lew Wallace High School is a part of the Gary Community School Corporation, located in Gary, Indiana. Gary, Indiana, known as the Steel City, is a mid-sized city of 125,000 located in the northwest corner of the state near Lake Michigan, 30 miles from Chicago, Illinois. The Gary Community School Corporation’s vision is to create a school/community environment conductive and supportive of teaching and learning. They seek to be sure that students gain knowledge and work skills critical to their academic success, career plans, and participation in the global society.

Six high schools, Grades 9-12 with a total of approximately 7,500 students make up the Gary Community School Corporation’s high school population. The Lew Wallace High School serves 1,179 students with 64 teachers, making the student/teacher ratio 18.4. Thirty-seven percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
