Scholarships Available for UNL Students


A.  The following scholarships are assigned by the UNL financial aid office:

Kay Crawford Scholarship
L. R. Menebroker Scholarship
Emma Butz -Tidball Scholarship
Riley M. Tidball Scholarship

Qualifications for these scholarships:

  • Physical Disability
  • Financial Need
  • Full time status
  • GPA

Students must fill out a scholarship application with the Financial Aid Office.  Current students must apply on-line.  Application dates are October – February.  The scholarship award is given out the next fall.  Incoming freshmen must send a letter to Financial Aid indicating their ID number and disability.

B.  The following scholarship is coordinated by ADA/504 Compliance Officer and Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD):

Suzanne Benedict Scholarship


  • Hearing Impaired
  • Undergraduate
  • Financial Need
  • Full time status

Second preference is a graduate student in the Deaf Education program.

Students must provide a written essay explaining how the student fits the criteria of this scholarship; the impact of the disability on his/her education and future educational goals.  The letter must be directed to the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities who will collaborate with the ADA/504 Compliance Officer.

C.  The following scholarship is awarded by an SSD scholarship committee:

ASUN Scholarship


  • US citizen
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
  • Student registered with SSD

Students must complete an application; provide an official, sealed transcript and include an essay explaining the impact of the disability on his/her education and future goals. The essay should include how the student utilizes accommodations through SSD and how these accommodations aid the student in his/her education.
