Interpreting Services

The SSD office coordinates appropriate accommodations for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty or staff. Sign language interpreters can be arranged through our office for all programs, activities, special events, student classes and other UNL academic events.

Real Time Captioning Services

Some students that are hard of hearing may prefer printed text of lectures, especially if they do not use sign language. Real time captioning is a computer-aided speech-to-print transcription system. The captionist types the instructor's lecture (and student's comments) into a laptop computer. The typed information is displayed for the student to read during class. After the class, the printed text is available to the student for review purposes.

For further information or to schedule an interpreter or real time captionist, contact Barbara Woodhead, Coordinator of Interpreting and Real Time Captioning Services at 402-472-3787.
