Eligibility Requirements

Analysis in the lab

Participants in the Summer Research Program must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  3. Be an undergraduate student in good academic and disciplinary standing for the duration of the Summer Research Program

Preference will be given to students who:
  1. have sophomore, junior, or senior standing with one year of remaining undergraduate coursework
  2. have completed advanced course work related to the research area
  3. are interested in experiencing a meaningful research activity
  4. are open to learning more about graduate school opportunities

Related majors and research interests may include:
  • Agronomy
  • Bacteriology
  • Biochemistry
  • Biological Sciences
  • Biomedical Research
  • Biomedical Science
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Immunology
  • Material Science and Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Microbiology

Students from groups historically underrepresented in graduate education are especially encouraged to participate in UNL's Summer Research Program. In fields where they have been historically underrepresented, primary preference is given to:
  • African Americans
  • Native Americans
  • Hispanics/Latinos/Latinas
  • Asian Americans
  • Pacific Islanders
  • Women and men of any racial/ethnic background
    (in fields where their gender group is significantly under-represented)
