Slide 11: Principle 7: Making Evidence Meaningful

If assessment evidence is to be seen by a unit as credible, suggestive, and applicable, the assessment process should start by identifying and addressing the questions posed by major decision makers (i.e. faculty). This process must involve major decision makers in the gathering and interpreting of evidence. This involvement can help inform and guide continuos improvement.

Additionally, lack of data has not been a barrier to our assessment efforts. Many units are unaware of the rich sources of information they currently possess. However, for improvement, this existing evidence must be organized, manipulated, and applied in meaningful ways without losing sight of critical issues and needs.

Lastly, the collection of detailed and compelling assessment evidence is much more likely to stimulate discussions within a unit than percentage and percentiles.
