To summarize the benefits of outcomes assessment:
First, it empowers faculty by providing them with the opportunity to determine how they want to assess themselves for their own improvement.
Second, it enhances our understanding of how the structure of our programs assists students in achieving the goals that we believe are important for them to achieve. Assessment is a process of scholarly activity of our teaching and resultant learning that characterizes our institution as a research university.
Third, it provides richer and more reliable data for better decision making about the current and future course of our programs, and provides us with evidence that accurately represents the distinct achievements and successes of our individual educational programs.
