Ellen Weissinger

Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs |  

Ellen Weissinger became the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in February 2011. Ellen previously served as Interim Senior Vice Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since December 2010.

She is a tenured full professor of educational psychology with expertise in quantitative research methodology. A Nebraska native, Weissinger earned her undergraduate degree from UNL in 1980. She completed her Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1982 and a doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1985. She taught at the University of Iowa for one year before joining the UNL faculty in 1986. She was promoted to associate professor in 1992 and full professor in 1999.

Weissinger's academic interest is the interdisciplinary area of leisure studies. She published over 40 research articles with a special focus on intrinsic motivation and boredom. She also specialized in psychometric work and has published three measurement instruments. From 1996-2001 she served as editor of the Journal of Leisure Research. At UNL, she taught research methods courses in the College of Education and Human Sciences, including foundations of educational research, survey methods, experimental methods, and evaluation theory.

She has been the principal investigator or co-principle investigator for U.S. Department of Education and National Science Foundation grants totaling $1,000,000. She is the Director of the Great Plains National Security Education Consortium, a five-year, $3,000,000 project funded by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. She sits on the advisory board of the National Graduate and Professional Student Association and on the Council of Graduate Schools Research Task Force.

Weissinger previously served as dean of Graduate Studies, associate dean of Teachers College and associate director of the Buros Institute for Mental Measurement at UNL.

Alan is responsible for the Academic Services and Enrollment Management (ASEM) unit within Academic Affairs. This includes responsibility for the offices of Extended Education and Outreach, Undergraduate Admissions, Records and Registration, and Scholarships and Financial Aid. Alan also serves as the Dean of Admissions.

Associate Vice Chancellor and Professor of English |  

Amy is responsible for the coordination of undergraduate and student success programs, retention initiatives, Teaching Council, faculty instructional development and chair development. Amy oversees the Directors of Undergraduate Education, University Honors Program, and Campus Advising Services, and the faculty and program coordinators for the William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Community.

Associate Vice Chancellor and Professor of Electrical Engineering |  

Lance is responsible for faculty human resources including appointments, apportionment, orientation, promotion and tenure, awards and professorships, and academic personnel issues. Lance also leads academic program reviews and initiatives for faculty career development, excellence in STEM education, instructional technology, and classroom facilities improvements.

Associate Vice Chancellor and Professor of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education |  

Dave is responsible for the coordination of curriculum development, new academic program proposals, international agreements, CIC activities and accreditations. Dave also oversees course-related special fee requests and works closely with the Academic Planning Committee and Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education.

Assistant Vice Chancellor |  

Nancy Kenny is responsible for the budget and fiscal affairs of the Office of Academic Affairs, including contracts and academic reporting. Nancy leads the Academic Affairs business center and College Administrative Business Officers (CABO) group.
