RE: Paul Savory, Newly Appointed Summer Sessions Director

I am delighted to announce that Paul Savory, associate professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, has been appointed director of UNL Summer Sessions and Flexible Programs.

Since 2000, Savory has been a co-coordinator of UNL's Peer Review of Teaching Project, a faculty-development program aimed at improving student learning by helping faculty become better teachers. In 2005, the project received a TIAA-CREF Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence awarded to programs that enhance undergraduate achievement.

Savory joined UNL in 1994 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2000. He has served as associate chair of his department and directed the department's Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology program objective assessment. He has considerable experience working with projects designed to enhance and improve teaching. He was selected to UNL's Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2004 and awarded a Holling Family Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the College of Engineering.

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Oregon State University and a doctoral degree from Arizona State University.

The position is structured as a nine-month appointment with some summer duties. The position has been reconstituted and was approved with no new funding. It was previously structured as a full-time managerial/professional position. The appointment officially begins June 1.
