Goals of Strategic Planning
The three primary missions of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are learning, discovery and engagement. Through these missions the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been recognized as the primary research and doctoral-degree granting institution in the state. Today, UNL is one of the top 50 American universities in the number of doctoral degrees granted annually.
To earn this recognition and to continue UNL's tradition of excellence, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has implemented an iterative strategic planning process. The planning process is coordinated by the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and involves the participation of all University units. Academic strategic plans are submitted annually by all academic units reporting to the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and the Vice Chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Strategic Planning in other University units is managed by the Vice Chancellors for Business, Research, and Student Affairs; plans in these units respond to priorities established in the academic strategic plans.
A signature feature of UNL Strategic Planning is that it is responsive to changing needs and resources. We invite your participation in and comments on the process as we continue to use it to reach our goal of excellence in all that we do.
