In 1998, the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs issued a Plan for Increasing Diversity within the Faculty.Two funds are administered by Academic Affairs to support departmental and college efforts to meet the challenge of diversifying the faculty:
the Academic Affairs Diversity Pool which provides bridging funds to assist in the hiring and retention of faculty from under-represented groups;
Central Administration permanent diversity funding, annually distributed among the colleges as salary support for faculty from under-represented groups hired and retained.
