Academic Affairs Programs Big 12 Faculty Fellowships

Note: This information is mirrored from here.

The Big 12 Conference Universities began a program to stimulate research and creative activity initiatives on July 1, 1997. This program is intended to add to the benefits of member institutions as a result of the formation of the Big 12 Athletic Conference. It offers faculty the opportunity to travel to member institutions to collaborate on projects and research. The Faculty Fellowship Program has the following guidelines for the University of Nebraska:

  • A faculty member may visit any Big 12 university.
  • The faculty member contacts a host unit (department, research center, etc.) that the individual wishes to visit and determines that unit's receptivity and available dates.
  • The host unit formally invites the faculty fellow by sending a letter of invitation.
  • If the faculty members application is approved, the University of Nebraska provides $2,500 to be applied towards transportation, room, and board for the UNL faculty visit to the host institution.
  • A minimum of six fellowships will be available annually from the University of Nebraska.
  • The program officially began July 1, 1997.
  • After the visit the faculty fellow will submit a brief report to the Senior Vice Chancellor and their appropriate administrators describing the outcomes of the visit and offering suggestions for future planning.
  • Faculty members will be responsible for arranging coverage of their duties at UNL during their absence.
  • The host unit will announce that the visitor is coming and the activities in which the person will engage.
  • The visiting faculty member may consult with faculty and/or students, offer lectures or symposia, or engage in whatever activities are agreeable to the visitor and host institution.

Applications should be submitted through the applicant's unit administrator and appropriate dean(s) to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, 208 Canfield (0420). Applications will be reviewed twice a year and are due on June 1 (funds to be expended by December 31 of the same year) and December 1 (funds to be expended by June 30) of each year.
