Graduate Stage Design Program Information
Graduate Academic Programs
MFA in Stage Design (Scenic, Lighting or Technical Production)

Program Description
This program is intended for the graduate student who is preparing for a professional / academic career in scenic design, lighting design, or technical production.  This program is also noteworthy for the advanced training it offers students in computer visualization and design, interactive media, and film/television design.

While students may choose an area of emphasis, the intensive three-year program requires the student to demonstrate competencies in all areas of design and technology.  It is this faculty's belief that cultural and technological factors in society are changing the field of theatrical design, as computers take over some of the tasks that draftsmen, scenic artists, illustrators, and model makers have traditionally performed in the theatre, film, and television industries.  New courses have been developed to introduce the graduate student to the skills and opportunities connected to computer-aided design and expanded types of media.  With the development of some of these new courses, it is no longer possible for all students to take everything.

The curriculum is chosen by the student and his / her advisor to meet each student's needs.  Within this program, there is flexibility to address the student's particular interests and goals.

Graduate students with assistantships are responsible for supervision of the lighting, scene, sound, and prop shops.
