Our founder
Sarah Ida Shaw wished to “…found a society that shall be
kind alike to all and think more of a girl’s inner self
character than of her personal appearance…” Now, 118
years later there are 133 Chapters across the United
States and Canada.
Kappa Chapter is
continuing to lead the way with national honors for our
house improvement projects. In the last five years Kappa
Chapter has made major changes to make our house a home
for our members. Our house features wireless internet
available on all four floors and cable hookups in every
room. We have central air conditioning throughout the
house, including the private bedrooms. Each floor has
new energy efficient coinless washers and dryers. There
is new carpeting throughout the house, and new tile in
the dining room.
Our private rooms allow us to choose our own sleeping
conditions. Room size varies from 8 to 2 person rooms.
Rooms are selected according to a point system that
rewards members for outstanding achievement throughout
the year. Members choose their own roommates and can
decorate rooms to their preference.
Our newly remodeled dining room allows all members to
eat together for formal dinners. The dinner schedule
allows for members to attend “family style” dinners
Monday through Friday. The dining schedule also
accommodates busy members with open lunches and dinners.
Special dietary needs can be met by our private kitchen
staff. If members cannot eat during open meal times, we
have a 24 hour mini-kitchen that is fully stocked
similar to their kitchens at home.
House
Mom
Kappa Chapter is
lucky to be under the care of Mom Kay. Mom Kay is a
retired director of nursing from Lincoln General. She
graduated from Methodist Hospital and has two grown
daughters. She is active in PEO and at Saint Mark’s
Methodist Church. She is enjoying her third year as
house director for Tri Delta. While Mom Kay takes on
many tasks from making sure the mini kitchen is stocked
to cheering us on at intramurals, she is always there
when we need her. Mom Kay offers etiquette tips during
our formal dinners, and is our honored guest at all of
our house functions. Mom Kay plays an invaluable role in
the day-to-day lives of the women of Kappa Chapter.
