During the 2006-2007 academic year Kappa Chapter raised
over $10,000 for children’s cancer charities. Since
November of 1999, Tri Delta has held a partnership with
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis,
Tennessee. This worthy charity provides state of the art
medical treatment to children with cancer at no cost to
their families. Nationally Tri Delta’s have raised over
$760,000 in the last two years for St. Jude’s.
Kappa chapter holds two annual philanthropic events:
Flap Jack Snack Attack and Batters Up. Flap Jack Snack
Attack is held during UNL’s Homecoming Week. Held from
10pm to 2am on Thursday night, it provides a much needed
break for other Greeks and student organizations from
work on Homecoming yard displays. The seniors flip the
flap jacks on large griddles while underclassmen serve
and sell tickets. Donations from the community and lots
of hard work by the Delta ladies, makes for a fun-filled
and successful evening.
Batters Up is a slow pitch softball tournament held in
the spring. Formerly known as Frats at Bat, the event
now includes sororities and non-Greek affiliated teams.
The one-day tournament is held at Mahoney Park across
all four fields. Local DJ’s provide music and event
sponsorship, while the women of Delta Delta Delta serve
as the honorary coaches for each team.
While we enjoy playing host to the university, Tri Delta
also conducts a private campaign called “Sincerely
Yours” for St. Jude’s. This unique campaign allows each
member to write to 50 families asking for contributions
to go directly to St. Jude’s. This campaign is one of
the highest grossing philanthropies on campus and
directly benefits the children of St. Jude’s. All of the
funds raised through this campaign are tax deductible.
