Trombone Studio News -Karl Lyden performed as the featured soloist with the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra on their first concert series. He performed two works by Dr. Eric Richards as well as other combo pieces. -Both Craig Mathis and Matt Walley participated in summer workshops. Craig performed at the 2009 Rafael Mendez Brass Institute while Matt was a participant in the Michael Mulcahy Summer Workshop at Northwestern University. Congratulations to both of them. -The trombone studio will welcome Ryan Riss (Rapid City, SD) to the studio. Ryan has been in basic training and joins us in January. -Andrew Strain (BA Tenor Trombone 2001) is currently touring with "Beowulf – A Thousand Years Of Baggage". Alumni News -Dr. Andrew Converse (DMA Tenor Trombone 2009) is teaching at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, TX. He teaches Low Brass, music fundamentals (Pre-Theory), Music Appreciation and Ear Training. -Dr. Nancy Vogt (DMA Tenor Trombone 2006) is the Low Brass Professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University. In addition, she is the production Coordinator at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. -Dr. Jason Faas (DMA Bass Trombone 2007) is a freelance teacher and performer in the Lincoln-Omaha area. -Dr. Timothy Howe (DMA Tenor Trombone 2002) is the Low Brass Professor at Arkansas Tech University. -Dr. Jeremy Kolwinska (MM Tenor Trombone 1999) is chair of the Department of Music at Northwestern College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In addition to his administrative duties, Jeremy also teaches all low brass. -Andrew Binkard (BME Tenor Trombone 2008) is pursuing his MM in trombone performance at the University of Texas -Austin. -Fred Scott (BA Tenor Trombone 2005) has graduated with a Master of Music in Music Technology from NYU. Fred's second trial of his thesis research was accepted for 124th Audio Engineering Society Convention in Amsterdam. In addition, Fred was accepted into the Computer Science department of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. Fred starts in the MSc program and has the option of transferring into PhD program. -Jonathan Reece (BA Tenor Trombone 2005) graduated from Southeast Technical University in Red Wing, Minnesota where he was enrolled in the Band Instrument Repair program. Jon now lives in Alaska where he is playing the trombone among other things. -Paul Ahlemeyer (BME Bass Trombone 2005) is the assistant band director at Francis Howell North High School and Francis Howell High School. Paul is also the marching band assistant at Francis Howell North High School. In addition, Paul performs with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra. -Tyler Hottovy (BME Tenor Trombone 2005) is teaching at Norris Elementary School in Omaha, Nebraska. -Ann Carlson (BME Tenor Trombone 2005) is the K-5 Elementary Teacher for Peabody Elementary in Centennial, Colorado. -Aaron Misenheimer (MM Bass Trombone 2002) is the Trombone Professor at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. He is also the founder of Goldbranch Music. -Wendy Cape (MM Tenor Trombone 2004) has won an internship with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She will be working for the Director of Operations, the Personnel Manager and the Production Manager. -Dan Bussian (BA Bass Trombone 2004) is a bass trombonist living in North Dakota. After studying at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dan received his B.A. in trombone performance in 2004. He then went on to study with Tom Ashworth at the University of Minnesota-TC, receiving an M.M. in bass trombone performance in 2006. -Andrew Bowen (BME Tenor Trombone 2004) is the band director at Creighton High School. -Bryant Scott (BA Tenor Trombone 2003) is an active performer and arranger in Chicago. In addition, he is teaching and coaching jazz combos at New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL. -Nathan LeFeber (BME Tenor Trombone 2002) is teaching middle school and senior high band at Beatrice (NE) Public Schools. -Paul Janda (BM Tenor Trombone 2002) completed his MM in trombone performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is teaching the trombone studio this year at St. Cloud State in Minnesota. -Dennis DeWald (BA Tenor Trombone 2003) has been accepted to the UNL School of Law and will commence his studies Fall 2007. -Kevin Fullerton (MM Bass Trombone 2002) is a PHD student at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. His emphasis is on Jazz with a planned secondary emphasis in 20th Century Music History. He and his wife Audra have a six month old baby boy (Jack), and life in general is good. -Kyle Avery (BME Tenor Trombone 2002) is enrolled in the Graduate Program in Music Education at the University of Nebraska. -Andrew Strain (BA Tenor Trombone 2001) is currently touring with "Beowulf – A Thousand Years Of Baggage". Andy moved to the Bay Area two years ago to work on an MFA at Mills College in Oakland. There, he has combines his studies with Fred Frith in free improvisation and modern dance with Shelley Senter to create his own brand of performance. Until his move to the west coast, Andy played for five years in southwest Germany in various orchestras and chamber ensembles. In 2004, Andy served as principal Trombonist in la Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL in Monterrey Mexico. -Timothy Dickmeyer (BME Bass Trombone 1999) is the Bass Trombonist in the Lincoln Symphony and is the Event Services Supervisor at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. -Michael Dragen (BME Tenor Trombone 2001) is the assistant band director at Kearney High School in Kearney, Missouri. He assists with the marching band, team teaches the Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band, team teaches the Freshman Band, directs the Jazz Ensemble, and works with 6th/7th and 8th grade brass players. -Nick Spath (BME Bass Trombone 2001) is the Orchestra Director and Assistant Director of Bands at Omaha Burke High School. -Eric Ringeisen (MM Tenor Trombone 2000) is living in St. Cloud Minnesota and teaching low brass at Eden Prarie High School and the Jan Erickson Music Studios. Eric is a freelance trombonist in the central Minnesota area. Outside of music, he officiates Division II college and high school basketball in the five state region and has worked the Minnesota high school boys state tournament the past 3 years. -Patrick Schulz (MM Euphonium/Composition 2000) is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Theory and Composition at Arizona State University. His compositions are published by Tuba-Euphonium Press, Encore Music Publishers, and TubaQuartet.com. Patrick was a member of the acclaimed tuba quartet Sotto Voce. -Mark Campoli (BA Euphonium 1998) is euphoniumist with the US Army Band based outside of Atlanta, Georgia. -Kirk Pearson (BA Euphonium/Technology 1999) has accepted a position working in web page design in Dallas, Texas. -David Puckett ( BME Tenor Trombone 1997) is teaching in Keller Independant school district in Keller, TX. -Daniel Walk (BA Euphonium/Technology 1999) is with the 434th U.S. Army Signal Corps Band in Augusta, Georgia Students of Vernon Forbes -Arthur Ode (BM Tenor Trombone 2000) is the Trombone Instructor at Weatherford College and is the Low Brass Instructor at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, a member of the A&M system. In addition, he plays in a party band called "Definitely Maybe" and has joined a professional brass quintet and plays with a jazz/funk sextet called "The Goatees". -Jay Pralle (BM Bass Trombone) is a patent attorney in Minneapolis, Minnesota. -Craig Stilen (BM Bass Trombone) is a computer software writer for Andersen Windows in Bayport, Minnesota. He is an active free-lance bass trombonist in the Twin Cities area. Craig was a student of Vernon Forbes. -Scott Loftesness (BME Bass Trombone 1987) studied with Vernon Forbes. After teaching high school band for 15 years in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and in Omaha, Nebraska, he left teaching three years ago to go into the business world. He is now Vice President of Training for The Student Loan Corporation - a division of Citigroup. Scott still plays several times a month with the Sioux Falls Big Band. -Paul Piskorski (BME 1993) is a Tax Planning Analyst at Ameritrade Holding, Corp, and has a private trombone studio at The Horn Works music store in Omaha. He also occasionally plays in a brass quintet in the Omaha area. Paul was a student of Vernon Forbes. -Gregg Dress (B.M.E. 1971, M.M. 1976) is the Principal Trombonist in the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra. Gregg was a student of Vernon Forbes. |
