How do you become involved in UCARE?
Basically, you need to find a faculty sponsor! You and the faculty sponsor fill out the UCARE application form and submit the application to the UCARE Office in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, 201 Seaton Hall (0683). Application deadlines are once per year in mid-February. (The next application deadline is Friday, February 15, 2008 for the next UCARE academic year, which runs from June 1, 2008 - May 31, 2009.)
All full-time UNL undergraduates who have completed at least 30 semester hours are eligible. First year students can apply to participate as sophomores. All full-time faculty are eligible for the UCARE program. However, visiting professors are not eligible to apply unless they serve as co-sponsors with full-time UNL faculty members. Students must have a United States Social Security Number to be paid for work completed.
How to find a faculty sponsor? You can: talk to faculty in the subject area (s) in which you are interested, or talk to your academic advisor. You can browse the UCARE website for the latest list of projects funded to find current students and faculty involved in the program, or you can browse the departmental websites for the research profiles of faculty. You can also access the UCARE Opportunties portion of the UCARE website to see what position descriptions are posted by faculty. Finally you can speak with the Director of Undergraduate Research (Dr. Laura Damuth) and ask for suggestions.

If you are already involved in the UCARE Program, there is a Student Handbook that should answer most of the questions about how the program works and your responsibilities to your faculty sponsor.

Pre-Approval Forms for UCARE Expenses
UCARE funds should be used primarily for your pay. Occasionally exceptions to this arise and you can arrange with the department to take modest funds from your UCARE award for expenses. This will decrease the amount that will be available for pay. Any use of funds outside of pay requires prior approval from the Director of Undergraduate Research. Please use the forms below for such requests.
