Elbert Dickey

Elbert Dickey has been dean and director of University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension since 2001, after serving as interim director for about two years.

Previously, Dickey had been associate dean of UNL Extension from 1998-99 and assistant dean from 1991-98. His career at UNL began in 1978 in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering; he was promoted to professor in 1987. Prior to arriving at UNL, he was a research assistant at the University of Illinois and worked in agricultural production in Wayne County, Ill.

Dickey received bachelor's degrees in agricultural science and agricultural engineering from the University of Illinois, a master's degree in Agricultural Engineering from Illinois and a doctorate in Agricultural Engineering.

As dean of extension, Dickey presides over a statewide system that includes offices in 83 counties. On the national level, Dickey served a two-year, half time leadership role in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service.
