Michelle Waite became assistant to the chancellor for community relations Aug. 1, 1998. She is the principal adviser to Chancellor Harvey Perlman in relations between the university and many of its external constituencies, including the state legislature, governmental agencies, the business community, economic development officers and other community organizations.
Prior to coming to UNL, Waite had 11 years of experience as a legislative aide in the Nebraska Legislature, working as the lead staffer for former Sen. Ron Withem of Papillion and Sen. Ron Raikes of Lincoln. She continues to serve as a liaison for UNL with the Unicameral.
In 2004, she was named an honorary member of the Innocents Society, the chancellor's senior honorary, and in 2004-05 served as chair of the Downtown Lincoln Association. She is a 1992 graduate of Doane College and is pursuing a graduate degree in legal studies from the UNL College of Law.
Her older son, Cody, earned a bachelor's degree in English from Nebraska Wesleyan University and serves with the Army in Afghanistan. Younger son Logan is a sophomore secondary education major at UNL.
