Prem Paul

Prem S. Paul, D.V.M., Ph.D., is Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. He became vice chancellor for research on July 1, 2001. His title changed in early 2008 to reflect his new responsibilities in economic development, a growing area of emphasis for UNL. He also was dean of graduate studies from 2001 to early 2008.

Before joining UNL, Paul was a faculty member at Iowa State University, where he was associate vice provost for research, associate dean for research and graduate studies in the College of Veterinary Medicine and assistant director of the Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station. Earlier he was the veterinary medical officer at the USDA's National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa.

Paul earned his DVM from the College of Veterinary Sciences at Panjab Agricultural University in India and his Ph.D. in veterinary microbiology from the University of Minnesota. He is board-certified in veterinary microbiology.

He chairs the Coalition of EPSCoR/IDeA States and is a member of the Council on Research Policy and Graduate Education the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinary Microbiologists, American Society for Virology, Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians.
