Rita C. Kean was appointed dean of Undergraduate Studies in 2003.
In that role she is responsible for all academic initiatives outside the academic colleges, including the General Education (ACE) Program, Honors Program, Division of General Studies, Institutional Assessment, Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, Learning Communities, Supplemental Instruction, Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services, Transfer Students and Articulation Agreements. She oversees university involvement in the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues, the University Curriculum Committee, is co-chair of the Enrollment Management Council and serves on Academic Dean's Council.
Kean was a professor and Chair of the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design in the College of Education and Human Sciences. She served as an American Council of Education Fellow. She has a bachelor's in home economics education from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and master's and doctoral degrees from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in textiles, clothing and design and community and human resources, respectively. Her teaching, research and outreach focused on retailing in rural communities, electronic commerce, and family- and home-based businesses. She is a member of the Nebraska Alumni Association Cather Circle.
