Your Field Guide to the UNL Directory

Finding Your Way Around the UNL Directory

Welcome.

This guide is provided to help with the introduction of the 2010 UNL Directory revisions. In addition to general information about the new UNL Directory, the right side of the page is intended to assist users of the Centrex Directory in adjusting to the online format.

First, about the data

The information in UNL Directory is maintained in several source databases.

STUDENT directory information is maintained in the UNL student information system. Because data restrictions (UNL and Board of Regents) don't allow for the distribution of student contact information to the general public, we recommend that students who would like to communicate with others in the UNL community use Planet Red, UNL's social networking utility.

FACULTY/STAFF directory information is maintained in the UNL administrative and finance system, SAP. The SAP data is the official, business-oriented information about each person employed by UNL. This information includes:

  • name
  • employment designation
  • job title
  • department
  • campus address
  • campus phone number
  • campus email address
  • vcard download link

Data that will be added in the near future:

  • nicknames, or 'known-as' names

Upgrade Your Image

Want to show your photo on your UNL Directory result, instead of the default outline? Easy. The photos are pulled from your Planet Red profile. Don't have one? Well, as an 'official' member of the UNL community, you already have a Planet Red account. All you need to do is fill out a little profile information and upload a photo. A thumbnail of that photo will then be displayed with your other official information in the directory.

Transitioning from the Printed Centrex

Due to the challenging budgetary environment, discontinuance of the printed Centrex directory has been identified as a potential option going forward. The following information is intended to help current users of the Centrex adjust to the online UNL Directory.
