Lincoln (Neb.) - Nov. 4, 1997 - Gary Moulton, professor of history at the University of Nebraska and editor of the "Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition," will again follow in the footsteps of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark Nov. 10 as he journeys to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of President Bill Clinton.
Moulton will join Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan at a White House screening of Burns' documentary "Lewis and Clark: The Journal of the Corps of Discovery." An acknowledged authority on the expedition, Moulton was a consultant to Burns and Duncan for both the script writing and the editing of the film, which airs Nov. 4 and 5 on PBS.
"This has been a rewarding experience to work on one of Ken Burns' films," Moulton said. "I think this is an exceptional film in the manner of Burns' previous films on the Civil War and Thomas Jefferson."
Moulton has been editing the 12-volume "Journals" at
Nebraska since 1980. Volume 12 features the botanical collection
from the expedition and is in press. A comprehensive index is
expected to be printed in 1999. The project is funded by the
university's Center for Great Plains Studies with funding from
the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American
Philosophical Society.
