Lincoln (Neb.) - Nov. 2, 1998 - The National Association of Counsel for Children announced that a University of Nebraska College of Law student, Jill Thomsen, won the NACC 1998 student competition for her essay, "Protecting the Children of Welfare Reform Under the International Standards of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child."
Thomsen's essay will be published in the NAAC 1998 Children's Law Manual. Her award was presented at the National Children's Law Conference Oct. 12 in Milwaukee.
A native of Fremont, Thomsen is a third-year law student who
was graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in
1993 and a master's degree in social work in 1994. She is the
executive editor of the Nebraska Law Review and has won numerous
awards as a law student and as an undergraduate. While in law
school, she was one of Sen. Bob Kerry's interns and taught
English for the Japanese Ministry of Education.
