Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 12, 1999 - James Moeser, chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will travel to Fremont on Tuesday, Oct. 19 as part of his annual series of community visits.
After a luncheon with the Fremont Optimist Club and an opportunity to review efforts in the area by NU Cooperative Extension Division, Moeser will meet with community and business leaders and educators prior to his keynote speech before the local Nebraska Alumni Chapter.
"The university is committed to being an engaged institution, working in partnership with local communities to help maintain sustainability of local economies and cultures, as well as families with critical issues affecting children and youth in Nebraska," Moeser said.
"I believe it's critical to listen to the concerns of our citizens. An engaged university is a university that listens. It is my hope that business and community leaders, alumni, parents and friends of our university will give us input during this series of visits to assist us in becoming an even more engaged university."
After he became the university's 18th chancellor in February
1996, Moeser began visiting communities to become acquainted with
the state. He continues this project to gather input and learn
more about the issues facing citizens across the state. Moeser
notes that "the university sees the entire state as its campus."
