Lincoln (Neb.) - Dec. 14, 1999 - A University of Nebraska- Lincoln search committee has narrowed its list of potential candidates to three for dean of the College of Architecture.
Richard Edwards, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced that finalists are H. Gordon Brooks, Wayne Drummond and Frederick Steiner and. The new dean will replace W. Cecil Steward, who retires at the end of December after 26 years. The candidates are scheduled for campus visits in January.
Brooks is dean (since 1990) of the College of the Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has a master's of architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor's from Louisiana State University. He previously held positions at the University of Arkansas.
Drummond is professor of architecture at the University of Florida, where he served as dean the College of Architecture from 1990 through last May. He has a bachelor's degree in architecture from Louisiana State University; a diploma in architecture from Fontainebleau School of Music and Fine Arts in France; and master's in architecture from Rice University. He has been in practice or teaching and research positions at Caudill, Rowlett and Scott Architects, the University of Kansas, Kiene and Bradley Partnership Architects, Clemson University, Henningson, Durham and Richardson International, Auburn University, Rice University, Texas Tech University and Florida.
Steiner is professor and director (since 1989) at the School of Planning and Landscape Architecture in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Arizona State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design from the University of Cincinnati, a master's in community planning at the University of Cincinnati, a master's in regional planning and city and regional planning and a doctorate in city and regional planning at the University of Pennsylvania. He has had additional academic and administrative experience at the University of Colorado at Denver, Pennsylvania, Washington State University and Cincinnati, in addition to numerous consulting positions.
N. Brito Mutunayagam, associate dean and professor of
community and regional planning at NU, has been appointed interim
dean effective Jan. 1. He will serve until a permanent dean is
