Lincoln (Neb.) - Sept. 6, 2000 - The work of artist Fay Grajower will be on exhibit on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus Sept 10-Oct. 5. The public exhibit, "Stones and Scrolls," will be presented in the Rotunda Gallery in the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St., and is sponsored by the Harris Center for Judaic Studies.
A Sept. 10 reception featuring a lecture by Grajower will open the exhibit. The reception will be from 4-6 p.m. in the Rotunda Gallery and Grajower's lecture will begin at about 4:15.
Grajower is the Norman and Helen Krivosha lecturer at UNL for the year 2000. She earned masters degrees in art and in speech and language communication from New York University. She has also studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Harvard University, and the Teachers Institute for Women, Yeshiva University, in New York.
Grajower's previous exhibits have appeared in Washington, D.C., Boston, New York, and Berlin, and other cities. She has served as the artist-in-residence at Europaisches Kulturzentrum in Thuringen, Germany, and the Mitzpe Ramon in Negev, Israel.
The focus of Grajower's work is the texture of memory, the unconscious elements of an inherited memory that shape our lives. History, to secure itself and to determine the vitality of the future, must be founded in memory. In her paintings, Grajower applies a visual language of abstract forms, layerings of materials, and calligraphic marks to stir emotions.
