Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 4, 2000 - Technology for women today will be the focus of the fall meeting of the Cather Circle Oct. 18-20 at the University of Nebraska. The Cather Circle is a prestigious mentoring program for outstanding women students and distinguished alumnae, sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association.
More than two dozen new alumnae have joined the 70 original alumnae members in the group. The student contingent includes 60 new and returning members.
The conference will highlight a range of technology-related topics, including using technology for hobbies and leisure, running a home-based business, job hunting and career opportunities. In addition to these sessions, two keynote speakers will address the group.
Mike McKinley, president of MDM Telecommunications, a consulting firm specializing in Internet marketing and e-commerce programs for multi-media companies, will examine technology's influence in the job market.
Nancy Ahlrichs is director of organizational evaluation for ONEX Inc., an Indianapolis-based e-commerce, high-tech consulting and recruiting firm. A frequent speaker on the topic of recruiting and retention, Ahlrichs will discuss professional opportunities in the high-tech market.
"The Cather Circle executive committee has covered a broad spectrum of topics so that this meeting will be meaningful for everybody, whether you're a 'techie guru' or computer-shy," said Cather Circle coordinator Shelley Zaborowski. "We'll explore technology's role in a professional setting, of course, but we'll also explore its uses in our hobbies and the really fun stuff."
Sessions will be at the Wick Alumni Center and the Nebraska East
Union. Participants may attend the NU theater production of "All's Well
That End's Well" Oct. 19 and the NU-Baylor football game Oct. 21.
