Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 16, 2000 - Three former members of the Nebraska Constitutional Revision Commission will present the next Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a panel discussion on the work and recommendations of the commission.
The public seminar, "Revising the Nebraska Constitution: A Scorecard," will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium, 1400 R St.
The panelists are Dick Herman, retired journalist and chair of the commission, Peter Longo, professor of political science at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Omaha attorney Mike Nelsen. The panel will place particular emphasis on the equal protection clause.
The commission was created by a statute passed by the Nebraska Legislature in 1995 and was charged with a two-year mission of simplifying the Nebraska Constitution and giving the legislature more flexibility. The commission was active from 1995 to 1997.
