RETIRED GOODYEAR PRESIDENT TO LECTURE AT UNL

Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 16, 2000 - Hoyt Wells, retired president of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., will be a visiting lecturer Oct. 20 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Engineering and Technology.

Wells, a graduate of NU's department of mechanical engineering, will hold two seminars during his stay. "The Reinvention of Goodyear: A Corporate Success Story" will be presented at 8:30 a.m. in Room 318 of the Walter Scott Engineering Center and at 2:30 p.m. in Room 129 WSEC. The lectures are free and open to the public.

A native of Auburn, Wells graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and in 1951 with a master of science degree. He then began a 44-year career with Goodyear. Before his retirement in 1995, Wells held many positions with the company, beginning with his first job as an engineer at the Lincoln power transmission products plant. In 1991 he was named president and chief operating officer and in 1994 was elected vice chair of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.

Wells lives in Akron, Ohio, where he serves as president of the University of Akron Foundation and Chairman of the Advancement Council for the University of Akron College of Engineering. He also participates in that college's "Engineers in Business" Seminar Series. Wells was a UNL Masters Week participant in 1989 and a recipient of two alumni awards: the UNL Alumni Achievement Award in 1996 and the UNL College of Engineering and Technology Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2000.
