UNIVERSITY FORUM LETS NU STUDENTS ASK 'WHAT CAN WE DO?' ABOUT TERRORIST ATTACKS

Lincoln (Neb.) - Sept. 20, 2001 - A university forum, "Answers to Your Questions About Terrorism in the U.S.: What Can NU Students Do?" will be conducted Sept. 25 at the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Ballroom and will feature faculty experts who can address student issues related to the recent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. After the panel discussion the program will break into smaller discussion groups as students develop action plans in response to the crisis. All UNL students are welcome to this forum; admission is free.

"Intelligent discussion is our most important weapon against the fear and rage that accompanies this devastating tragedy," said James McShane, director of the University Foundations program. "Our goal is to provide a place where NU students can raise their issues for discussion and find ways to contribute to the national effort."

A host of campus groups are collaborating to create the impromptu forum, including the Chancellor's Office, the University Foundations Program, ASUN student government, Student Involvement, the NU Honors Program, the Nebraska Unions, various student honoraries and international student groups.

"It's hard for all of us to just sit and watch all that's happened, not knowing what we can do as individuals," said Linda Major, interim director of Student Involvement. "It's important that we're able to provide a forum where students can take an active role in the healing process."
