Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 3, 2001 - American Jewish historian Rabbi David G. Dalin will speak on "The Presidents of the United States and the Jews" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Great Plains Gallery in the Christlieb Galley, 1155 Q St.
Dalin is visiting scholar in Judaic studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. His new book, co-authored with Rabbi Alfred J. Kolatch, is "The Presidents of United States and the Jews." He published an article titled "America Seems Ready for a Jewish Vice-President" in The Connecticut Jewish Ledger on June 30, 2000, several weeks before Al Gore selected Sen. Joseph Lieberman as his vice presidential running mate.
He is the author or co-author of five previous books in the fields of American Jewish History and Jewish political thought. His book "Religion and State in the American Jewish Experience," co-authored with Brandeis Professor Jonathan D. Sarna, was selected by "CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries" as one of the outstanding academic books of 1998.
Dalin has taught Jewish studies at George Washington, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the University of Hartford, Trinity College, Smith College and the City University of New York. He has lectured extensively on American Jewish history and politics, issues of Jewish public policy and contemporary Jewish affairs. He has also served as a scholar-in-residence at synagogues and Jewish communal institutions throughout the United States.
Dalin is the Norman and Helene Krivosha lecturer for the year 2001.
