Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 4, 2001 - The first Nebraska Multicultural Exchange Conference will take place Oct. 12-14 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The conference is designed to promote cultural exchange among international students, scholars and faculty and Americans. It will feature activities and workshops focusing on multicultural and cross-cultural issues and showcase the cultures represented in Nebraska, including American cultures. The goal is to educate and clarify misconceptions.
A welcome event to open the conference will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Culture Center, 333 N. 14th St. Workshops on Oct. 13 will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Nebraska East Union, followed by an international dinner and program at Morrill Hall, and a dance at the Culture Center where both disco and traditional cultural dancing will take place. Optional tours are available on Oct. 14.
Some sessions have been added to the conference in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A panel of leaders from the university and Lincoln community will lead a discussion to explain the Islamic religion, the Muslim culture and the Taliban.
