Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 22, 2001 - Teddy Roosevelt comes to Lincoln Oct. 29 in the person of Richard Hart.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Center for Great Plains Studies and Center for Grassland Studies will sponsor Hart's performance as "Teddy Roosevelt" at 7 p.m. Oct. 29, in the Christlieb Gallery, 1155 Q St. The performance is free and open to the public
Hart's resemblance to Roosevelt motivated him to write and present a series of docudramas describing "Teddy's" adventures as a boy in New York City, as rancher and hunter in Dakota Territory, as governor of the state of New York, and as the 21st president of the United States.
In his impersonations of the former president, Hart, who recently retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's High Plains Grasslands Research Station in Cheyenne, Wyo., strives to portray Roosevelt's zest for life, sense of humor, and commitment to conservation, while including references to local happenings and personalities Roosevelt encountered during his lifetime. Hart has appeared as "Teddy Roosevelt" in more than 150 performances.
Also on Oct. 29, Hart will give a public lecture on "Bison and How They Shaped the Great Plains Rangelands" at 3:30 p.m. at the Nebraska East Union. This presentation is sponsored by the Center for Grassland Studies as its 2001 Leu Distinguished Lectureship.
