Lincoln (Neb.) - Oct. 25, 2001 - Michael S. Turner, chair of the department of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago, will deliver a lecture titled "How the Universe Began, and Our Place in It" Nov. 1 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium, 1400 R St. It is free and open to the public.
Turner is a cosmologist whose research focuses on the earliest moments of the universe. He has made important contributions to inflationary universe theory, understanding of dark matter, and the origin of structure.
The Rauner distinguished service professor in astronomy at Chicago, Turner is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
His talk is sponsored at UNL by the College of Arts and Sciences, the
Math/Science Education Initiative, the Center for Science, Math and
Computer Education, and the department of physics and astronomy.
